With a little over 6,000 seats, the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal City Walk is currently the third largest indoor theatre in California. Initially intended to be, and indeed built as an outdoor venue, the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal City was later renovated into an indoor venue in an effort to improve the sound quality.

The Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal City Walk was known as the Universal Amphitheatre until 2005, when the Gibson Guitar Corporation bought the naming rights to the venue and renamed it the Gibson Amphitheatre.
